Molly specially requested a galaxy cake for her 7th birthday, which I was happy to do. It's been so long since I've done a cake, it was so strange to pull everything out of the cabinets and to make sure we had all the ingredients! Thank you COVID!
This was my 2nd time making the mirror glaze. The first one I did for Miss E's birthday back in 2019. I've learned a few things since then. Most importantly to put the cake in the freezer for a few hours before you pour the glaze over it. I did not do this with Miss E's cake and it melted the icing underneath a bit. The glaze thinned out showing some of the chocolate icing. This time the glaze set perfectly. Now, it's still a crazy messy process but well worth it.
This was an 8" three layer chocolate cake with chocolate filling and butter cream icing under the glaze. The lettering was done cut out with vinyl on my Cricut machine.
Molly loved her cake so much that she didn't want her mom to cut into it.
