Dungeons & Dragon Cake

My first Dungeons & Dragon cake.  The cake was the easy part for this one!  Though when I went to put on the edible gold dust I forgot that a little goes a LONG way.  It kept getting on the black cake board and when I went to wipe it away what you see is the result of that.  It keeps spreading!  So, I embraced that.  Originally Happy Birthday Allan was supposed to go around the base of the board but nothing was going to stick to "golden" base.  I switched gears and took out my Cricut machine again to do up a silhouette of a dragon and the lettering in vinyl. The D20 die was a fun challenge I gave myself.  I downloaded several templates before I found one that made sense to me.  Even then, I could figure out how to get my Cricut machine to add in the score lines.  I was pleasantly surprised that it came out as good as it did.  The template came the numbers showing in a certain order so that is how I added them on but then I...

Level Up Cookies & Cream Cake

This is one of my favourite cakes to make.  And this was a big one!  The cake toper was done using my Cricut machine and cardstock. I used a stabalized whipped cream icing for the filling so it's not as sweet as my regular buttercream icing.  I also added extra Oreo cookies chunks between the layers. Cake: 10" 2-layer cookies and cream cake with whipped cream icing

Pokeman Wedding Cake

A fun wedding cake delivered today.  No one is as surprised as me that the fondant ears turned out and survived the car ride to the wedding!  Cake: 10" 3-layer vanilla with vanilla buttercream               8" 3-layer vanilla with vanilla buttercream   Gluten-free chocolate cupcakes for some guests to be able to enjoy dessert!

Poker Cake

This cake was for a former coworker's husband and friend.  Her request was poker theme.  This was a cake where the decorations came to me as I built the cake. First I made all the chips, and the decorations a few nights ago.  It was pretty tedious but easy work while watching Netflix. I made nine of each colour. I made a 9 x 13 chocolate cake with chocolate filling and covered in black fondant.  It didn't quite reach the edge on the one side which is why there are chips along the bottom of the front.  Rather than hide the mistake at the back I hid it in on the front so the back didn't need to have chips on it as well. I think the cigar is my favourite.  I rolled out some brown fondant added some white on the end and dotted black edible marker to make it look like the lit end. I painted it darker brow to make it look more realistic.  I did the same with the "wood" around the table. Hope the birthday boys enjoy their cake!

Ben & Rachel's Wedding Cakes

A couple of weeks ago friends of ours got married and our wedding gift was the cake, or cakes rather.  The wedding had a games theme so each cake represented a game. Fortunately the wedding was on a Sunday and I had all day Saturday to decorate.  Mr. T kept me company watching a marathon of Night Court on Comedy Gold while I decorated into the wee hours of the morning.  I was actually done by 2 am, which I thought was pretty good! Cake #1: Puzzle Cake Ben and Rachel provided their cake topper for this one.  I loved it.  All cakes were 2 tiered, 8 inch square.  This one was chocolate with chocolate fudge filling.  Originally I was doing a rope of black fondant around the base but it was turning out as I wanted.  Instead I opted to used a 1/2 inch ribbon around each base. Cake #2: Scrabble Cake Ben is an avid Scrabble player.  Years ago I attended an evening at the club where Ben played thinking I was a decent player.  Recr...

Lego Cake

I made this cake on the weekend for Stathis who's turning 4.  To make this cake I baked the equivalent of two 8" cakes, both cookies and cream with Nutella filling. Before I iced the cakes I cut each one in half and one half into quarters.  The yellow, blue and red bricks were 4" by 8" and the green 4" x 4".  For the circles on top, whatever you call those things, I rolled out fondant to about 1/4" thick and cut out the circles. After all the cakes were done I put them in the fridge for an hour to get really cold which made it much easier to move around to make the 4 on the board.

Ninjago Birthday

Yesterday I made 5 dozen cupcakes for a birthday celebration.  One dozen was covered with Ninjagos.  I'm not even sure if that's the right terminology.  I know nothing about the Ninjago craze.  My Little Pony and Barbie, no problem!  Another dozen had the number 6 on each one.  The rest just had my standard iced decorating.

Scrabble Cake

This 8 x 8 square cake was perfect fit for actual size Scrabble lettering to fit Happy Birthday.  I was able to use my Scrabble board to do the impression on the fondant board.  I just added the extra point squares with thin fondant squares.  The writing was done with edible black marker. The cake was for my friend Mary for her dad's 80th birthday celebration.  I think I'm going to have to do a similar cake for my Grandma Joyce's birthday next month! Cake: Carrot Cake Filling: Cream cheese icing

Rubik's Cube Cake

Yesterday we had Easter dinner at my parents' house with my dad's family.  We were also celebrating my cousin Josh's birthday.  So, of course, a reason to make a cake.  :) I got the idea for the cake from browsing through the different cakes from Google.  It took about an hour to dye and cut out all the squares.  You need 45 squares, 8 of each of the 6 colours (with 3 left over).  The red was really a pain to dye, always is and my hands looked like a bloody massacre had taken place when I was done.  Of course when I was all done then I found my pre-dyed red fondant.  Oops! This was my first time doing a 3 tiered cake.  Completely forgot about the need for using dowels and a platform so the bottom layer got a little squished from the weight after a while.  But not too bad thankfully.
