Ava's Spa Cake

Ava was having a spa party so her some sent me some pictures of ideas for the cake and cupcakes.  This was lots of fun to do.  As usual, I made the cake and cupcakes first.  Both vanilla with confetti added for some fun.  Then I set about doing the decorations making nail polish bottles, eye shadow and lipstick.  Too much fun. My favourite is by far the sleep mask.  I love the ruffle around it it.  I covered the cake in white fondant and trimmed it with some black ribbon. I used the black ribbon for the ties of the mask as well.  Then I added the spilled nail polish.  Love the colours and how they turned out. Once the cupcake toppers had dried over night I added them on top of the butter cream icing as the final touch.

Teacher Retirement Cake

I was excited to ask to make this cake for Michelle's retirement.  I remember when she first came to the school where my parents taught.  That was a a few years ago! This cake is a 9 x 13 two layer chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling.  Michelle is an avid volley ball player which is why it is on the front of the cake.  Otherwise I decorated the cake it in a classic teacher theme with chalk board and apples. Congratulations Michelle!

Construction Cake

This was a last minute request to a very busy weekend but I couldn't resist doing this cake for my friend's great-nephew. This was a 9 x 13 two layer chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling.  I used Oreo cookie crumbs for the dirt.  One of the corners didn't turn out so well, so I made it look like it was under construction.  Colin's mom was adding trucks at her house to the cake.  I used one of my favourite little cars as a demo.

A Chef's Cake

My brother-in-law works at the  Budapest Restaurant  on Gerrard St. E.  They have really good hungarian food.  Tomorrow's the chef/owner's birthday and my mother-in-law asked me to make her a cake in her honour. I made a two layer 8" cookies and cream cake with buttercream filling to go with the black and white theme of the chef's coat.  Then I added some flowers that reminds me of hungarian needlework to add some colour. It sliced up really nicely even.  The cookies get a little soft in the baking process which makes for a really yummy flavour. Happy Birthday Edit!
