Super Mario Cupcake Cake

I had a lot of fun making this cupcake cake.  Three dozen cupcakes fit perfectly to make up the 7.  I realized too late that I had forgotten to get red and blue food colouring for the icing and was trying to figure out what I was going to but then I surprised myself and had just enough red and blue food colouring that didn't end up using taking me very long to get the vibrancy I wanted.  I was so happy that I was able to do what I had originally envisioned. Three dozen vanilla cupcakes with sprinkles decorated with vanilla buttercream.  Added some mini M&Ms, sprinkles and some gold dust. I dabbed a little icing on the bottom of each cupcake as glue to "stick" them on the cake board. Happy Birthday Adam I cut out using my Cricut machine.  All the Super Mario Characters I printed off and fussy cut each out leaving a white border.  Then I had Miss E laminate them and fussy cut them out.  She saved me so much time! Laminating them makes it really easy ...

Elemental Fall Cake

Miss E and I watched Elemental a few weeks ago and loved it.  When I was asked to this cake and heard that they loved this movie too I knew I had to incorporate it into the cake.  They wanted a more mature fall themed cake but then mentioned Elemental as well.  You're never too old for any type of cake is my theory. I coloured the Happy Birthday as close to the Elemental logo as possible.  Then added some fall silk flowers and picks.  I love how this cake turned out. Cake: 8" 3-layer chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream

Wild Kratts Cake

I've known Abigail's mom since she was very little.  I was so honoured to be asked to do her birthday cake.  The family is thrilled to be able to celebrate with her in Ontario as they are here for a few months from overseas.   For the decorations I printed out the characters and creature power discs, cut them out laminated them.  The Wild Kratts logo I cut out on my Cricut along with the cake topper and the 5.  For the figureines, Abigail's mom dropped them off  and I added them on top of the "grass". Cake: 3-layer 8" chocolate cake with buttercream icing

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cake

I was very excited to be asked to make a TMNT cake.  My first one!  I love doing cake toppers these days!  This one was one of the more tedious ones I've made but I am so happy with how it turned out.  Using vinyl instead of cardstock does make it so much more manageable though.  I swear I've seen the gummy pizza slices in the Bulk Barn or a dollar store, but when I needed them, they were hard to find.  Thankfully I only had to go to three stores to find these.  I'm sure they taste awful but they did the trick and Nick was very excited when he saw them on the cake. Cake: 8" 4-layer chocolate cake with mocha filling, buttercream icing, and chocolate ganache drippings.

CocoMelon 1st Birthday Cake

I can't believe Mattie's one already.  I feel like it was just yesterday that I was delivering her baby shower cake.  Happy to have a part in her first birthday celebration. Cake topper and decorations are a combination of Cricut and printer cut outs.  For the rainbow, number one and lettering I cut out on white paper and coloured with my Copic markers to get the exact colours that I wanted.   Cake: 8" 3-layer lemon cake with cream cheese filling covered in fondant

Emma's Moana Cake and Encanto Cupcakes

A fun Moana themed cake with Encanto cupcakes.  Emma's mom was able to order the figurines on Amazon and have them shipped directly to me.  I still marvel that it's that simple these days! I picked up the flowers and greenery from Michael's and made some shells out of fondant.  The sand is from some crushed graham crackers.  Cake: 6" 3-layer strawberry cake with one layer of lemon curd filling and one layer of strawberry filling with buttercream icing Cupcakes: chocolate with buttercream icing

Disney Frozen Cake

I'm so happy to do Elsie's birthday cake again this year.  It is always a pleasure and an adventure to do a cake for one of my favourite families!  This was my first attempt at making glass candy.  After the second attempt of making the glass I realized that my candy thermometre was most likely faulty.  Each time the melted sugar turned amber and thus made the blue turn green.  On the third batch I got it right.  A good thing because I was running out of corn syrup fast!     Cake: 8" and 6" 3-layer lemon cake with cream cheese icing.

Barbie Cake

Sweet Barbie cake for Sophie delivered to the Flying Squirrel.  I'm not disappointed that we are past that stage of kids birthday parties in our house!  It was a madhouse there.  The kids were having lots of fun, that's for sure.  I also dropped off a couple dozen cupcakes, which I forgot to take a picture of.  Cake: 6" 3-layer vanilla cake with buttercream icing.

Blippi Cake for Santi

I love doing cakes for this most adorable cutie!  He lives in Miami now but comes up in the summer for a visit with his family.  This year's theme is Blippi.  The weather cooperated while working with fondant.  In the summer you never know with the humidity and living on the 20th floor how it's going to go. The glasses I made on my Cricut and laminated them.   Cake: 8" two-layer cookies n' cream with vanilla buttercream filling.    I some batter left over so I made some cupcakes for my Friday night crew to enjoy.

Paw Patrol Cake

Super fun Paw Patrol cake for Emma's 3rd birthday.  Her favourite number is 5 and it was her request to have a 5 on it.  I did 3 lollipops to represent her third birthday.  Love doing the lettering on the base of the cake in vinyl cut out on my Cricut machine.  It's so much easier than fondant! Cake: 6" 3-layer vanilla cake with lemon curd on as the first layer of filling and strawberry as the second.

Cocomelon Cake for Elsie

I'm always happy to do a cake for anyone in Elsie's family!  This one is CoCoMelon themed.  I printed off the characters and laminated them.  The 2 I cut from my Cricut machine and colour with my Copic markers to look like a watermelon.  Cake: 8" 3-layer lemon cake with cream cheese filling            6" 3-layer lemon cake with cream cheese filling Lemon cake is the family favourite. :)

Superhero Cake for Eason

Making this cake meant we were able to have an outdoor visit in a parking lot with family we haven't seen in forever to drop off the cake. Eason asked for a superhero cake.  I already had most of the cake topper ready to go so this cake came together really fast. Of course this is a chocolate cake, 6" three layer.  Always happy when I am able to get red buttercream icing to come out so vibrant. Hope you have an awesome day Eason!

Octonauts Birthday Cake for Nicola

I really like to combine fondant and paper when decorating a cake.  Generally it's a great time saver and keeps costs down for everyone.  Also, the paper decorations can be kept as keepsakes or for the kids to play with and repurpose  For this cake, I did all the generic decorations in fondant and the Octonaut characters I printed off, laminated and trimmed to go on the top of the cake  The "Nicola" topper was provided my Nicola's mom to add to the cake.  Nicola's favourite characters are Peso, the penguin and Tunip, the vegimal (according to Wikipedia!)   This was an 8" three layer lemon cake with raspberry filling.  The combination is so good!

Raya and The Last Dragon Cake

When I was asked to the this cake, I had not heard of Raya and the Last Dragon movie.  Thankfully, Miss E educated me followed by a few Google searches.  This was a 3 layer 8" cake.  I am finally writing this post almost 3 months later and for the life of me can't remember what flavour this cake was.  I'm pretty sure it was either chocolate or vanilla.   I love how the butter cream icing turned out with the ombre effect from purple to light blue.  The cake topper lettering was done on my Cricut machine using a Raya like font.

Jem Cake for Lindsay's 40th Birthday

For Lindsay's 40th birthday I knew I wanted to do a Jem themed cake as she is truly outrageous! The cake was four 6" layers alternating between vanilla and chocolate with salted caramel icing as filling.  I covered the cake in vanilla buttercream then added dabs of purple, pink and orange to copy the colour gradient in the Jem logo.  The logo I printed and laminated.  Finished it off with 40 stars. Happy Birthday Linds!  Enjoy your new decade.

Paw Patrol Birthday Cake

Sonya's mom sent me a picture of the cake she wanted and I did my best to replicate it.  For Skye and the Paw Patrol logo I printed them off on card stock and laminated them.  I always thought it was fun to have something to keep from a cake, plus it is less time consuming for the decorator! This two tiered cake, 6" and 8", both 3 layers were chocolate and vanilla.  The most time consuming part is making all the pebbles to go around the base of each layer.  Usually I don't make enough on the first go around.  As you can from the picture I had a few extra.  The paw prints were done with circle cutters if various sizes.

Lady Bug and Cat Noir Cake

When I was asked to make this cake I had never heard of Lady Bug and Cat Noir.  Fortunately, I was able to ask Miss E for information and Google the cartoon.  This was an 8" vanilla cake with butter cream filling.  For the decorations I made Cat Noir's mask and green paw prints; Lady Bug's mask and little lady bugs around the cake. Mr. T was kind enough to deliver this cake out to Ajax before his 2nd delivery in the next post.

Keaton's Batman Cake

I can't believe Keaton is 10 years old!  So when his mom asked me to make his cake almost at the last minute, I couldn't say no.  Even though I'm working on a wedding cake.  I knew I could squeeze this one in. The bottom tier is an 8" vanilla cake with butter cream filling.  The top tier I had extra carrot cake batter so I decided to go with it.  Turns out Keaton loves carrot cake.  Yay!

Peppa Pig Cake

When I was asked to a Peppa Pig cake I was super excited.  The show came out when Miss E was older so we were never in the Peppa Pig phase.  However we love the scene  Peppa Pig Can't Whistle .  It cracks me up every time! This was a 6" vanilla cake with strawberry filling.  Such a sweet cake.

Hakuna Matata Lion King Cake for Santiago

I'm so glad I got to make Santiago's cake for his first birthday!  He is one of the sweetest most adorable baby ever.  Though he's not a baby anymore :( His mom's request was for a Lion King theme cake with cupcakes.  The cake and cupcakes were both banana flavour with peanut butter icing.  Oh boy!  It is an awesome combination.  So glad we had left over icing. :) First I baked the cake and cupcakes.  While they were baking I started on the decorations for the cupcakes and the cake.  This took most of my Friday evening.  Thank you Albena! It was so humid even with our a/c blasting.  I could not get Simba to look right.  It was so frustrating.  I resorted to printing off a picture and laminating it.  At least Santiago can have a keepsake if he wants.  When I went to decorate the cupcakes the liners had peeled off on their own.  It looked nasty so, I took them all off and had mini cakes instead....
