Halloween Spider Birthday Cake

Rarely do I get to do a Halloween themed cake.  When I was given cart blanch on the decorating I knew I wanted to do the marshmallow goo spider web affect.  It isn't as easy as it looks. Definitely need to be very patient with it and not to rush it.  Of course, watching a few YouTube videos helps. This was a 3 layer 8" chocolate cake with whipped cream filling covered in chocolate ganache that I added black dye to.  The Happy 50th sign I cut out in red vinyl from my Cricut and added it to card stock. For the spiders I used leftover icing and piped them on adding red dragees for the eyes.  Lots of fun!

Halloween Sugar Cookies

Krumbs  asked me to decorate some Halloween cookies for them earlier this month and in turn they gave me enough cookies for Miss E's  class and the left over icing. Even with only having to do the decorating it took me several hours to do 3 dozen!

Halloween Fang Mini Cupcakes

I was asked to make some mini muffins for our team meeting today.  Since it was Halloween I figured I would do the icing in orange but then I didn't want a lot of left over orange icing in my fridge with nowhere to go.  Then I remembered seeing fang cupcakes in my travels on Google.  Of course I decided to do this at 10pm last night.  I didn't have any type of gel or cherry pie filling, ideas I saw from other examples.  I did have strawberry jam.  So, I added a bit of red dye to that and with a tooth pick (wonderful tool) added the "bite" marks.  Super fun and easy to decorate.

Skull Cupcakes

Several months ago I was asked to make cupcakes for a wedding.  These were going to be used for the guest bombonieres.  On top of the cupcakes they requested a skull for decoration.  I still haven't asked the significance of this...if I find out I will update the post. Now, when I agreed to make the skull, I thought it would be an easy task and procrastinated getting supplies ready.  I did have one silicon mold that had 4 skulls and 4 cross-bones.  I foolishly assumed that I could go back out last weekend and easily pick up a few more or another type of skull mold.  When I came up empty I began to panic wondering how I was going to make 168 white chocolate skulls with only one mold.  I did the math and figure it would be 41 batches of 4.  I had five nights to make them.   My life at home has revolved around 25 minute increments. That's exactly how long they took to chill in the fridge, empty and start over again.  In a few mi...

Halloween Celebrations

Again I have fallen way behind in posting my latest creations.  I'm going all the way back to Halloween.  Yikes! These cupcakes were for a celebration at work.  Half were pumpkin and half were chocolate. When I went to make them, the night before of course, I thought I had everything I needed including Halloween cupcake liners.  After a 20 minute search I had liners for every other occasion but Halloween.  I was left with using the white liners, which I officially do not like using.  They look so dull! I'm not overly thrilled with the look.  Thankfully they tasted just fine!

Thanksgiving cupcakes

For Thanksgiving weekend I made 7 dozen of these pumpkin cupcakes.  Four dozen went to 2 co-workers that ordered them, two went to a family dinner and the last dozen was sent to Miss E's day care for her birthday celebration.  I love getting mileage like this out of one design.

Pumpkin Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for Miss E's day care Halloween celebration.  I had leftover strawberry batter from the last cake, so that's the flavour they got.  I made some orange butter cream icing and topped them off with a few leaves and vines.  Then I decided that they needed at stem.  I found pretzels in the cupboard and broke them up to make the little stems.

Halloween Birthday Cake

I have to say this is one of my favourite cakes that I've done to date.  It was request from a family friend for his wife's birthday.  I only rolled out the black fondant to 1/4 inch instead my usual 1/8 which made it a lot easier to place on the cake and to smooth out.  I dusted it with edible shimmer dust. The large pumpkin is from a Pampered Chef set and the smaller pumpkin, ghost, and bat were from a Linzer cookie cutout set I just got for my birthday.  This was my first time using the lettering set that I bought from a really cool cake supply store I discovered in Pickering called Flour Confections.

Candy Corn Cupcakes

Of course I made chocolate cupcakes for E's day care for their pot luck Halloween lunch.  It does make it hard to be able to see the fun cupcake cups I use since the dark batter hides it but you can sort of see that they were orange with bats.  The candy corn gummies I bought at Home sense.

Pumpkin Cupcakes

Halloween treat for E's day care.  The pumpkin Jujubes I found at HomeSense.  Of course afterward I found them at the Bulk Barn for half the price!

Halloween Cupcakes

These I made for Thanksgiving dessert.  I got this idea off of Very Best Baking.  You pour melted chocolate on to waxed paper and drop candy corn randomly and let dry.  Then you break of pieces to stick in the iced cupcakes.
