Cut the Rope Cake for Miss E's Belated 8th Birthday Bash

Miss E's birthday is actually October 12th.  Given that October was a CRAZY month for us we moved out celebrating her party to this weekend.  She went back and forth on what she wanted for her cake.  She finally decided on a Cut the Rope Cake.

I was able to order online a cake kit that included Om-Nom (the funny green guy), a candy ring and the Cut the Rope sign.  This saved me a bit of time for sure.  My favourite thing about this cake is the "plate" I used.  I had Mr. T buy a 12" x 12" plain white ceramic tile from RONA for $4.00.  I picked up some felt pads and green ribbon from a Dollarama for an additional $2.00.  Glued the ribbon around the sides of the tile and VOILA, a really nice cake plate for $6.00.  Can't beat that!

The cake was a 10" two layer cookies and cream cake covered in butter cream icing and fondant decorations; all to Miss E's specifications.

Hosting a party for 21 kids is not for the weak!  Even though Mr. T and I super exhausted, it was a great time.  Miss. E had a blast and I think the kids did too.  We played some classic games like musical chairs, hot potato, and freeze dance.  The clear favourite was unraveling a roll of toilet paper as fast as you can.  Then later as we had lots of extra rolls, they wrapped themselves up as mummies.

Again this year Miss E asked for a donation instead of a gift.  This year the donations are going to SickKids in honour of her 8th birthday.

Thank you everyone for your support and sharing in celebrating her special day!

  1. Happy birthday Miss E! It was a fab party. You outdid yourself as always, with the cake and the entertainment.

My Little Pony Pull Apart Cupcake Cake

For this "cake" I made two dozen vanilla cupcakes and arranged them on the cake board in the shape of the rainbow and clouds.  To make sure the cupcakes didn't move I added a dab of icing on the bottom of each cupcake. It's not that often that I get to dye icing, or six different colours at once.  You can get a really good bicep workout, Miss E was kind enough to lend her figurines as models for the picture.  The clouds piped out perfectly.  The rainbow was a little more difficult.  Next time I would put a base coat on the cupcakes to help keep the top coat more level and easier to pipe over.

Carrot Cake for July Birthdays

To celebrate my dad and brother's birthdays this year we went up to my parents' trailer to have a campfire dinner; hotdogs over the fire with a side of corn on the cob.  So good! To finish off the celebration I made one of the family favourites, carrot cake with cream cheese icing.    This was a 3 layer six inch cake with lots of cream cheese icing.  Hopefully, it was enough for Geoff this time.

60th Jack Daniels Birthday Cake

These types of cakes are so much fun to do.  Over the top goodness!  Especially, when the original plan  was to use airplane size bottles of Jack Daniel's instead of one 300mL bottle.  When Mr T went to the LCBO he was told that they longer sell them, at least as this location, due to high theft.  The next smallest size available was the 300mL bottle; though I doubt the birthday boy was disappointed! This was a 3 layer chocolate 8" cake with Bailey's buttercream topped off with Hershey pieces, mini chocolate chip cookies, Ferrero Rocher and Whoppers sitting on top of the chocolate ganache.
