Yesterday we had Easter dinner at my parents' house with my dad's family. We were also celebrating my cousin Josh's birthday. So, of course, a reason to make a cake. :)
I got the idea for the cake from browsing through the different cakes from Google. It took about an hour to dye and cut out all the squares. You need 45 squares, 8 of each of the 6 colours (with 3 left over). The red was really a pain to dye, always is and my hands looked like a bloody massacre had taken place when I was done. Of course when I was all done then I found my pre-dyed red fondant. Oops!
This was my first time doing a 3 tiered cake. Completely forgot about the need for using dowels and a platform so the bottom layer got a little squished from the weight after a while. But not too bad thankfully.

Fab cake. I just made a similar one. Did you cover the three layers separately in black fondant or stack first & cover in one piece? I did them separately but it wasnt so neat.
ReplyDeleteI did them separately. I don't think I could handle the stress of trying to do it one piece! However the effect would really I'd imagine.
